The Name:
Same name, different spelling and everlasting inspiration. The original Flamstead of Vermont was developed by my parents, Tom and Tory Spater in the 70's, in the small southern Vermont town of Chester. Originally a tie company, my parents expanded the business into the broader apparel market with a focus on printed skirts, selling to LL Bean, Trimmingham’s of Bermuda, Carroll Reed, and Bloomingdale. The fabric cutting and screen-printing happened up on the third floor.  Then there were about 30 sewing machines paired with skilled sewers in the basement to finish the product.  You can see Tory sporting a Flamstead wrap skirt here on the steps of the store.

While Flamsted is in a very different consumer market, the concept of opportunity, business development, and entrepreneurship has stayed the same.
